This pattern is taken from The New Knitting Stitch Library by Lesley Stanfield, pattern No. 16, p. 29.
Materials: One pair size US7/4.5mm straight knitting needles
One skein cotton worsted weight yarn.
Two ring markers

Difficulty: Easy

Directions:

Cast on 40 sts. The pattern is a multiple of 8+2.
Work 3 rows garter st. (knit every row). Work first 3 and last 3 sts. of every row in garter st. for the borders. These sts. are included in the cast on and pattern.

Pattern:
Row 1: (RS) K3, place marker, *K2, P6*; repeat between *s. End K2, place marker, K3
Row 2: K3, slip marker, P2, *K6, P2*; repeat between *s. End slip marker, K3
Row 3: K3, slip marker, K34, slip marker, K3
Row 4: K3, slip marker, K2 *K2, P2, K4*; repeat between *s. End slip marker, K3
Row 5: K3, slip marker, *P4, K2, P2*; repeat between *s. End P2, slip marker, K3
Row 6: K3, slip marker, P34, slip marker, K3

Repeat these 6 rows 8 times, then rows 1-3 for a total of 51 rows.
Work 3 row garter st.
Bind off and weave in all ends.
