Designer unknown This pattern was sent to me by Elaine
Rating: Easy - Medium
Cast on 10 - 21 stitches.
Knit 1 row.
Now start the short rows:
K 9. Turn. (you'll stop short one stitch)
Slip the first stitch knitwise, K 8 (to end of row).
K 8. Turn.
Slip the first stitch knitwise, K 7 (to end of row).
K 7, turn, and so on until you have only 1 stitch left.
This makes one small triangle.
Now you will make a triangle going the other way.
Now you k 2 stitches (the one you have left and one of the stitches you left behind when you turned a short row). Turn.
Slip the first stitch knitwise, K 1 (to end of row).
K 3. Turn.
Slip the first stitch knitwise, K 2 (to end of row).
K4, Turn
Slip the first stitch knitwise, K 3 (to end of row).
And so on until you have all the stitches back on your needle.
You'll notice that you turned a perfect right angle.
That is 1/4 of your potholder.
You just do that 3 more times and you'll have a square.
Elaine's Note: I really like these. It amazes me that it works, and they hold their shape better than my other rectangular ones. The photo is of a wet cloth, so the holes show more, but it really gives you a better idea of the pattern.
Thanks Elaine for sending me this great pattern and the photo to go with it.
