Intarsia Insanity Dishcloth

Intarsia Insanity Dishcloth

Designer: Laura Tejada
This pattern is taken from The Harmony Guide to Knitting Stitches, page 43.
Materials: Dishcloth cotton, you will need one ball of main color (MC), one smaller ball or bobbin of MC, plus bobbins for 4 Contrast Colors (CC). and your preferred needle size

Hint: You may use 1, 2, 3, or 4 contrast colors. For easy visualization, I will call the contrast colors CC1, CC2, CC3, and CC4. When changing yarns during a row, pick the new yarn up from UNDER the old yarn. This prevents holes.

Pattern Stitch:
Row 1: (Right Side) Using Contrast Colors, K1, *yf, sl1, yb, k1*; repeat between *'s to end.
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: Using Main Color, *yf, sl1, yb, k1*, repeat between *'s to end
Row 4: Purl
Repeat these 4 rows for pattern

Directions:
Using MC, cast on 36 stitches.
Knit 6 rows.
Row 7: Set-up row (wrong side) K3, P30, K3.
Row 8: Begin pattern: K3 MC, attach CC1 and work 15 stitches in Row 1 of pattern. Attach CC2 and work the next 15 stitches in Row 1 of pattern, attach bobbin of MC and K3.
Row 9: K3 MC, P15 CC2, P15 CC3, K3MC.
Row 10: (right side): Keeping the 3-stitch border at each side in MC garter stitch, work Row 3 of pattern in MC, changing MC yarns at the left border.
Row 11: K3 from MC bobbin, change to MC yarn and P30, K3.

Work in pattern and colors as established until CC blocks are square. This should be about 28-32 rows, depending on your row gauge. (Use your judgment.) End with a wrong side row in MC. Cut CC1 and CC2.

Using CC3 and CC4, repeat rows 8-11 until second tier of CC blocks are square. End with a wrong side row in MC. Cut CCs and extra MC.

Border: Using MC, K3, P30, K3. Then K7 rows. Bind off on right side.
